Skin conditions
Take a closer look at some of the skin conditions we are currently working on:
Psoriasis
Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory disease that involves the skin and nails, and it is associated with a number of comorbidities.
Actinic keratosis
Actinic keratosis or solar keratosis is an area of sun-damaged skin occurring mostly in areas that are chronically exposed to ultraviolet (UV) radiation.
Atopic dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis (AD), or atopic eczema, is a non-contagious chronic, inflammatory disease of the skin.
Acne
Acne is a skin disorder that usually appears in adolescence and causes blackheads and pimples.
Onychomycosis
Onychomycosis, or nail fungus, is an infection that affects the nails, being more likely to occur in toenails, especially the big toe.
Alopecia areata
Alopecia areata is a common autoimmune disease that causes hair loss in small, round areas of the scalp, although, in some cases, it may also lead to generalized baldness.
Skin cancer
Skin cancer is caused by an abnormal overgrowth of skin cells that have lost control over their own growth cycle.
Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a non-contagious chronic skin condition and is associated with a loss of pigmentation due to the progressive destruction of melanocytes, the skin cells that produce melanin, responsible for skin color.
Hidradenitis suppurativa
Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS), also known as acne inversa, is a non-contagious chronic skin disease characterized by inflammatory and painful nodules or abscesses developed in the major skin fold areas, such as armpits, groin, buttocks, and breasts.
Rare skin diseases
Rare skin diseases include more than 800 diseases affecting around 6.8 million patients worldwide, many of whom have high unmet needs. Take a closer look at some of the skin conditions that Almirall is currently researching.
